Tips for Making Tangyuan Soup
Dumplings Well-bought, they still need to be cooked properly to be both delicious and attractive. Cooking dumplings requires mastering a few key points:
1 Gently press them. Before putting them in the pot, gently squeeze the dumplings by hand so that there are slight cracks. This way, the inside and outside cook evenly, resulting in a soft and smooth texture.
2 Boil with boiling water. Start by bringing the water to a strong boil, then add the dumplings. Use the back of a spoon to gently push them around so they don't stick to the bottom.
3 Use low heat after boiling. Once the dumplings float to the surface, switch to low heat quickly; if you continue using high heat, the dumplings will keep rolling and easily break apart. If the dumplings roll continuously without even cooking on the inside, they can become tough and unappetizing.
4 Add cold water. After adding the dumplings to the pot, add a bit of cold water every time it boils. This keeps the water from fully boiling while still maintaining its heat. Boil two or three times before finishing the cooking process. This method results in soft but not hard dumplings that are fragrant and delicious.
5 Change the broth frequently. After cooking a few batches, if the broth becomes too thick, change it to ensure proper cooking. Otherwise, the dumplings may take longer to cook and become partially uncooked inside. Otherwise, it will cook slowly and may be underdone.
