Tomato sauce is a condiment mainly made from tomatoes, with an acidic and sweet taste, fresh and rich in aroma.
It is commonly used as a cooking ingredient for fish, meat, vegetables,
soups and more. Various dishes such as "Ketchup Fried Rice Crisps" and "Ketchup Chicken Cubes" are made with it. Besides lycopene, tomato sauce also contains B vitamins, dietary fiber, minerals, protein, and natural pectin.
Compared to fresh tomatoes, the nutrients in tomato sauce are easier for the human body to absorb. Lycopene in tomato sauce has diuretic and antibacterial functions and is a good antioxidant that can eliminate free radicals, protect cells, prevent DNA and genes from being damaged, thereby blocking cancer development and reducing the risk of cancer occurrence. Lycopene also effectively protects blood vessels, helping to prevent arteriosclerosis, hypertension, and coronary heart disease. Additionally, tomato sauce can stimulate appetite, prevent constipation, slow down aging, and improve skin condition.
It is advisable to consume 15~30 grams at a time. It is especially suitable for people with arteriosclerosis, hypertension, coronary heart disease, and nephritis. People with acute enteritis, bacterial dysentery, or active ulcers should avoid it. Those who are on a diet should eat tomato sauce with caution as it can produce rich calories. Tomato sauce pairs best with olive oil and should not be consumed with milk.
High-quality ketchup is usually deep red or red in color, has a uniform and fine texture, appropriate viscosity, sweet and sour taste without impurities or odor. After opening the bottle, store tomato sauce at around 5°C in the refrigerator. The shelf life is about one month.
