Eating Curry May Boost Memory
Eating curry can enhance memory. Professor Abe Kazuhiko of the pharmacy department at Waseda University and others found that there are few cases of Alzheimer's disease in India, leading them to suspect a link with the dietary habits of Indians. They then investigated various spices used in Indian cuisine and discovered that turmeric has an effect of preventing brain nerve cell damage as people age.
To further confirm the effects of turmeric, the research group at Waseda University also conducted studies using mice on a new compound "CNB-001" extracted from curcumin by the Soo Chow Institute in the United States. The results showed that mice fed with turmeric compounds had significantly better memories than those not fed with these compounds.
Professor Abe analyzed that the new compound may directly activate the hippocampus, which is involved in memory. He also stated that they plan to develop new drugs after confirming its safety.
