Women Can Prevent Depression by Eating Fish Regularly

A group of researchers at the Menzies Institute in Tasmania, Australia, tracked 1,400 volunteers aged 26-36 over 5 years. These volunteers recorded their diets daily, including various seafood such as fish, shrimp, and shellfish. Their mental health status was also recorded.

The study found a strong correlation between the amount of fish consumed by women and the risk of depression. The results showed that women who ate fish once a week had a 6% lower risk of depression;Women who ate fish twice a week or more had a 25% lower risk of depression compared to those who ate fish less than twice a week.

However, this was not the case for men. This is likely because men obtained more omega-3 fatty acids from other dietary sources, particularly meat. Richard Marsh, director of the Food, Brain and Behaviour Institute, explained that omega-3 fatty acids, a common component of fish oil, make up a portion of the human brain.

Another plausible explanation is that omega-3 fatty acids may work together with female hormones to improve brain health, thereby reducing the risk of depression.

This study proves that eating fish is beneficial for women's mental health. Of course, eating deep-sea fish is also beneficial for brain health. Experts recommend that people eat deep-sea fish, such as mackerel, tuna,salmon, and sardines, twice a week.
