Winter olives are a good remedy for sore throat.

Most of the fruits in my country are harvested in the summer and autumn, except for olives, which are harvested in winter. Despite being harvested in winter, the color of the fruit remains green, hence the common name "green fruit," and sometimes "white olives."Olives are evergreen trees belonging to the olive family, flowering in the spring and summer, with all drupes being spindle-shaped. Olives are a specialty fruit of my country, originally from Hainan Island, but now most commonly cultivated in Guangdong, Fujian, with Guangxi and Taiwan following, and cultivation also exists in Zhejiang, Chongqing, and Sichuan.

There is a popular saying: "Foreigners eat olives, chew and spit out the outer part," which is because the taste of fresh olives is initially sour and astringent. However, after chewing carefully, the sour and astringent taste transforms into a refreshing sweetness, and saliva is produced in the mouth, making it a unique and delicious fruit. Therefore, fresh olives are considered a top-quality fruit for entertaining during the Spring Festival.

Fresh olives are not only flavorful but also have extremely high nutritional value: 100 grams of edible portion contains 22 milligrams of Vitamin C, as well as other nutrients, second only to Dates Citrus fruits,Lychee etc.

Olives also have certain medicinal value. In the Ming Dynasty, the medical scholar in "Compendium of Materia Medica" mentioned its effects as "moistening the throat, stopping thirst, and treating sore throat."Therefore, in traditional Chinese medicine, it is used as a clearing-lung and throat-soothing medicine, treating throat inflammation and pain. In winter, the climate is dry, and chewing fresh olives can moisturize the throat, dispel heat, quench thirst, and promote saliva production, with many benefits.
