Home-style Mutton and Yam Stew Preparation


In winter, eat more mutton. It has warming and nourishing effects. The supermarket is having an event; mutton is 2 yuan cheaper per pound compared to outside, not bad at all. I bought a lamb leg. Cut the meat for stir-frying, save the bones for soup.

1. Peel and wash two yam sticks, slice them, and soak them in water.

2. Soak the mutton in clean water for one hour to remove bloodwater, change the water twice during this time.

3. Boil water in a pot and add the mutton to blanch it.4. After turning color, remove from heat and wash with hot water to remove foam, then take out and set aside. 5. Prepare the ginger and scallions.

6. Heat the wok until hot, pour in cooking oil, and stir-fry the fennel seeds and star anise.

9. Then add light soy sauce and dark soy sauce to color it.

10. Pour in water that just covers the mutton.

11. Transfer back into a crockpot, adding a bay leaf.

12. After about an hour of cooking until the mutton is tender, add the sliced yam and

seasoning salt.

13. Once the yam is cooked, add some garlic sprouts and
