New Year's Eve Food Recommendation - Home-style Glutinous Rice Zangs

Making materials Main ingredients:Red dates, 30 pieces,glutinous rice flour,75g, 10g of cane sugar, 5g of black sesame seeds, and enough warm water. Steps
Firstly, prepare the red dates, peanuts, black sesame seeds, cane sugar, and glutinous rice flour.

Wash the red dates thoroughly and soak them in water for half an hour.

Use a hollow tool to remove the pits from the red dates.

Make a cut on one side of each red date.

Mix the glutinous rice flour with 4g of cane sugar and enough warm water, then knead it into a glutinous rice ball.

Form the glutinous rice ball into thin strips about as thick as a chopstick.

Cut the strips to match the length of the red dates.

Pack each strip of glutinous rice into a red date and seal it well.

Place the stuffed red dates with their sides up in a dish.

Steam them for 20 minutes over high heat.

Roast the peanuts in a pot.Then roast the black sesame seeds. Remove the shells from the roasted peanuts and put them together with the roasted black sesame seeds into a plastic bag.

Crush them using a rolling pin.

Pour the crushed nuts and seeds into a container and mix in the remaining cane sugar.

Sprinkle this mixture over the steamed red date stuffed glutinous rice balls just before serving.

Small tips

1. Choose plump red dates with small pits for better quality.

2. Soaking the red dates for half an hour makes it easier to remove the pits.
3. When removing the pit, use a tool similar in size to the date's pit.
4. Only cut one side of each date; do not fully sever both sides.
5. Adjust the amount of glutinous rice ball according to your preference—more if you like chewier texture or less for a stronger red date flavor.
6. Ensure there is enough space between the stuffed red dates during steaming to prevent sticking.
7. If roasting peanuts and sesame seeds seems too troublesome, consider drizzling with honey instead.
8. This dessert is best enjoyed hot; it will be even more soft and chewy when eaten warm.
Suggested to place the glutinous rice dates apart when steaming to prevent them from sticking together.
